This desk lamp is most definitely a step way above in quality over the $20 junk you see at the home improvement and office supply stores. I was pleasantly surprised that a parabolic louver was part of the cover over the bulb. I use the lamp over my keyboard and the lamp housing is generally at eye level. The acrylic lens cover did however refract a thin line of light directly into my eyes. A strip of black electrical tape quickly fixed that. Overall I'm very pleased with the lamp although the illumination doesn't quite cover an entire desktop with enough intensity for reading purposes and the light color takes a little getting use to. I purchased four of these units for my home office.

I locate the desk lamp behind my computer monitor, bending it over the top of the monitor to light up the work area in front of the monitor. It takes up very little space, illuminates a wide working area and provides adequate white light - without glaring in the eyes, depending on how you adjust the position of the light source.
